top makeup products of january 2016

Instead of doing the basic “January favorites” post, I thought I’d get creative & only name my absolute top products that impressed me the most this month.  Not that there’s anything wrong with the basic post I’m just trying to be different here people !!  Before I get into it though, let me just share that A.) I am in no way a certified professional makeup artist, B.) While I’m not certified, I still have many years of experience through doing other people’s makeup and watching years of YouTube videos, and C.) I have very, very dry skin so when it comes to face products, some may not be the best for your skin type.  So anyway, here are my top makeup products for the month of January:

primer:  Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer, $32

primer

This has got to be one of the best primers I’ve ever used.  It claims to be a “replenishing face primer that hydrates, smoothes, and brightens skin for a dewy, healthy looking finish.” (thank you, sephora.) I definitely see a difference in my skin after starting to use this just over a month ago.  My skin doesn’t look as dry with foundation and powder, and I see less wrinkles in my forehead.  I believe it helps my makeup stay on longer than it does with other primers; it takes longer for my redness to start showing from underneath.  I do have to admit though that I can still see foundation on my nose, but my skin is so dry that I don’t think any product will help it at this point.  All in all, this is a great primer for anyone that has normal to even super dry skin!

foundation:  Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, $45

foundation

This is one of those products that you’ve known about for years and years and never tried it until now & you regret everything.  This is such a great foundation for dry skin, I can barely see it on my face!  I love this because it is lightweight yet build-able so I can still cover my redness and any other problem areas.  It’s also a great color match for me (I use Mont Blanc) which is always hard for me to find being so pale.  While it’s a bit on the pricey side, you won’t regret purchasing this foundation once you see it on your skin.

concealer:  Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer, $28

concealer

I’m not going to lie, when I saw the price of this concealer I was like, “hell no I’m not spending $28 on a concealer when my $6 maybelline one is the bomb.” The last time I spent more than $10 on concealer was when I got my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (probably my favorite to this day) and it ran out in like a week (okay not literally, but way too soon for a concealer that expensive)  After seeing so many people talk about it on YouTube, I decided to give it a try.  Wowz.  Amazing. This concealer looks amazing under my eyes, and I’ve never had a concealer that felt so hydrating as I blend it in.  This may become my new favorite, assuming it’ll last longer than the Nars one… you’ll have to stay tuned for an answer.

powder:  Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, $32

powder

I have no idea how to say this other than this powder literally saved my life!  Because I have such dry skin, it’s taken me years, and I mean YEARS to find a powder that doesn’t make me look too dry or caky or anything like that.  It’s very sheer so it’s able to set my foundation perfectly without being visible on my skin.  I was skeptical to try this because of the price, but I can promise it’s completely worth it, especially if you have dry skin like me!

contour:  Maybelline FaceStudio Master Contour, $13

contour

I am going to be honest and admit that the main reason I decided to give this contour kit a try is because Gigi Hadid was the model on the shelf at my local CVS (no shame whatsoever.)  I mean let’s be real, how good can the quality of a drugstore contour kit be when you’re used to using your good ole’ Anastasia contour kit?  Well my friends, the answer to that:  marvelous.  I’m shocked by the quality.  The bronzer looks great on my skin, and it isn’t chalky like I expected it to be.  The blush and highlight colors are awesome as well, but I personally reach for that bronzer color more out of the three.

lips:  Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color, $8 each

lips

Another Maybelline product that had me shocked this month is their new matte liquid lipsticks. I normally don’t do too well with matte lip products because my lips are constantly dry and just not having it when it comes to lip products.   Even on my dry, chapped lips these look amazing.  They seem to stay on a long time too.  For such a good price, these are definitely worth a try!  My favorite colors are Nude Thrill and Nude Flush (can you see the color pattern??)

While there are a ton of other products I used this month, these are the products that I felt needed the most recognition after being blown away by them!

Let me know if you have any faves for the month, or any products you think I should try in February! Until next time..

xx Nicole
